Why Do We Baptize Infants?

December 12, 2011

For those of you who were there for Mary Emma’s (Samuel and Mary Wright’s daughter) baptism this weekend at Trinity, you witnessed a wonderful privilege of living in a covenant community of believers. Infant baptism is one of the most beautiful representations of God’s covenant love for his people. It is also one of the most misunderstood. I am thankful to be a part of the leadership of a church that loves the truth of infant baptism, but not more than the Gospel and certainly not more than our people! There are families, even members, at Trinity who are persuaded in a variety of directions on the issue of baptism…and that’s ok! We welcome all who love Jesus and all who want to know more about his covenant love for his people. I have attached below a chapter by Bryan Chappell, president of Covenant Seminary, where he lays out in simple terms the reason we baptize our children.
